This will put more strain on the team to make a better game while also making it harder for them to pass the assests to a newer hardware. Meanwhile a bundle was announced for Pokemon Conclusion Sword and Shield. This bundle is for the new Nintendo- hardware the Switch Lite. A dedicated handheld While all this is just speculation, this does not excuse gamefreak for cutting pokemon in future games Their plan going forward is to have a limited roster in all future games, meanwhile all they have showing for it is re-used assets from past games and a new mechanic, that going by Mega Evolutions and Z-Moves unit that has none of the features present in the original console, it's just a handheld device. would not be brought in Next Generation games. Pokemon as a gaming franchise needs time to develop, making the games a yearly release will only give fans a subpar game that won't have life past it's launch.

In case you were holding out: hope, dashed. Speaking to Inside Gamer, Pokemon boss Junichi Masuda re-confirmed that yes, there are no plans to add the National Pokedex into Sword and Shield. Although there were some "maybes" thrown out since the news came back in June at E3, Game Freak is now sticking to their guns and eliminating the prospect altogether. Masuda states: "We now have no plans to make the Pokemon that are missing in the Galar Pokedex in- game available. That is an approach that we want to continue with Pokemon games in the future. Of course, up to now it has not been possible to encounter every Pokemon in every game, so people had to transfer it from old games via Pokemon Bank to the new game, for example."

IIRC Game Freak also started developing Sword and Shield immediately after Sun and Moon's release, which makes it even more plausible that they expected it to be a 3DS title rather than a Switch one.

If this truly is the case, that actually makes the situation a lot worse, as it means they had some horrible forethought and faced the consequences of combining it with a multibillion-dollar franchise that requires multiple stuff to come out in a specific timeframe. Meaning that this is a greater fuck-up than anyone could've imagined. At the very least it explains a lot of its faults, but at the same time it shows that Game Freak has seriously lost their grip on how to maintain the gaming facet of the Pokemon franchise.

Ideally, for Gen IX they should be able to learn from these mistakes to prevent a similar catastrophe, but I wouldn't expect it to change the quality of the games themselves given that this is Game Freak we're talking about.
