Anonymous asked: Are you planning on any more Igbtq characters in the show? The background couple in the valentines episode was adorable and a really great thing to watch as someone who grew up with little representation That's great to hear! Though the scene you're talking about was simple and cute, it was a very difficult scene to get approved. First there was concern that it might offend viewers who feel as though showing certain types of people in kids cartoons is inappropriate. Then there was concern that we might offend the other side because it could be interpreted as us making fun of gay couples. There were many meetings over many months about this one scene.. I kind of understand the concerns of either side because at the end of the day, turning away viewers is bad business. So it's much "safer" to exclude than include. But as artists and storytellers, we do have a certain amount of responsibility to showcase the reality around us. Or at the very least, not completely ignore it. We're not taking any kind of political or social stance by simply acknowledging that gay people exist. The joke is that Cricket is too young and naive to understand. Shane and I liked the joke and part of our jobs as comedy producers is to defend funny jokes. At the end of the day, I'm glad you liked itl We'll continue to push for funny jokes like this. Big City is a place for all people. I think there's opportunity for us all to laugh at our similarities and differences.
