I bet the person who made that new Toucan Sam design had a really cute design originally, but then the manager kept saying "No, make it look more like Gumball, Gumball is popular". I've seen so many great designs butchered by micromanaging commissioners.

And then afterwards they had the concept art rendered by the absolute cheapest vector trace they could possibly get, hence the solid black lineart, gradients, and over-saturation.
