Not even just games, some manga and anime have to do with killing/become the God as well.

Compared to western media that usually makes it a pantheon of multiple Gods so it's easier to digest the idea of killing one of them. Because obviously one of those gods are evil and totally deserve it too. Hell, sometimes you kill every God, ala Kratos.
