I think Maximillion Dood has pointed out a good couple of times that when it comes to Capcom nowadays it seems they're doing great in just about every area that's NOT fighters. Franchises like Devil May Cry and Resident Evil made huge comebacks after previously disappointing entries, Mega Man got a good new game at long last, and Monster Hunter has now reached the level of mainstream Western success Capcom's wanted since Tri on the Wii, but on the fighting game side the latest Marvel vs Capcom was derided for an unappealing artstyle and lacking roster that killed hype even if people who gave it a chance felt the actual gameplay was solid, and Street Fighter V took like a year or two to get to what it really should have been at launch.

The reason why is pretty clear : fighting games are pretty niche and competitive players, the ones who are most attracted to them prefer to focus on a few big games.

Since the end of the arcade era, these games became a lot less popular, so it's not surprising they are focusing on something else.
