Yanderedev (2014): Yandere Simulator, made by himself, debug sandbox (incomplete game), basically just using fans as free beta testers, gained a lot of popularity. Scott Cawthon (2020):8 main title FNAF games (6 of which made within a two year period), three main title books, three (soon to be 4) spin off short story books, an AR game, a VR game, a fun workbook, a game guide with not one but two versions, and a LOT of officially licensed merchandise. Yanderedev (2020): Yandere Simulator still a debug sandbox, unwinnable, there is no beatable rival, Osana not even in the game (or, let's be honest, even close to being in the game) let alone the other 9 rivals. Not mentioned as well: FNaF had exactly 0 dollars of financial support on its Kickstarter. Nobody supported the project, so Scott had to make it work with his own resources and merit and without the promise of success of any kind. And so he did.

I remember criticizing FNaF's "too many games" syndrome, but, in hindsight, that was rather short-sighted and knitpicky when the guy does a good enough job at it to foster a fanbase and having good will towards the many fangames he gets. Truly an exemplary indie game developer that honestly got more shit than he deserved regardless of FNaF's quality as a franchise being all over the place.
