Fewer than 2% pay any income tax at all. • The national government is limited and most of the power rests in the states (provinces) which have a great deal of autonomy • Traditional law-and-order justice system. Criminals are not coddled, and they are not set free on technicalities. •Society is based on strong, traditional, religious values. There is prayer in schools, and same-sex marriage is illegal. Divorce is rare, and families stay together. • Abortion is illegal except to save the life of the mother. • Pakistan has a deep respect for the military. Politicians consult with them on all major policy decisions. Hippie-style anti-war advocacy or flag-burning is simply unthinkable. Pakistanis have tremendous pride in their country. Patriotism is seen as a virtue and admired. • There are very few environmental and labor regulations to hold back innovation and small businesses. • Strong gun culture. Gun ownership is widespread and an important part of rural life.
