Long ago I was told that the classic Illuminati conspiracy theory didn't believe in a corrupt ruling elite, it believed in a complicit 99% of humanity. After all, if we've all heard of the Illuminati, they're one of the most famous names in western society, why are only a select few special people taking up arms against them?

Neo-Nazis try to shame you with a very similar argument. When they start losing (and losing badly) they try to claim the democracy that voted against them is actually complicit herd mentality. They try to shame you into believing you only voted against them because you're being too stupid or lazy to think for yourself. They use the seed of doubt to make you shut up so they can keep talking

There is one crucial difference though. While Illuminati theorists simply take the natural human unease of real life to ludicrous levels, Neo-Nazis know full well their philosophy is evil bullshit, and pull all the dirty tricks to pedal it anyway
