The inability to destroy bricks in stages with Hazards Off could potentially cripple the playability of the stage as the top blast zone/respawn would be blocked off from the rest of for the majority of the match, A Bowser-sized character can't even run through the pictured narrow space without breaking the blocks. Genre of very disliked vertical scrolling stages or extremely dynamic stages where frequent tight platforming (that favours fighters with superior recovery and air game) is a necessity for mere survival and gets in the way of battling, perhaps being a lot of stage to remaster on top of that. The speed-up function of Icicle Mountain and Rumble Falls is notably notorious. Remember that the less demanding continually horizontal scrolling stages still scroll even with Hazards Off. Also that vertical scrolling stages at The black and white version of Dream Land GB is a curious - Super Mario x3 - Donkey Kong x2 - Metroid x2 - Yoshi - Kirby - Star Fox x2 case. Boxing Ring kept its similar easter egg variant while as mentioned, Mushroomy Kingdom's more unique variant was dropped. But unlike those stages and Ultimate's Minecraft World, black and white Dream Land GB was only ever accessible in 3DS through the button-holding easter egg, least were totally absent in Smash 4 too, maybe for a reason. Uniquely built off the low-quality assets of other N64/3DS games while also being a lot to recreate in HD, two of them being entire race tracks. Rainbow Road is also similar to its Wii U counterpart of being a lesser priority to bring back. Not sure if - Ice Climber Ω - Game & Watch x2 scope was too intensive in terms of 8-Player, harder to judge that with pre-HD stages. - Pac-Man between the green and black and white palettes during gameplay. - PictoChat -Miiverse Jungle Hijinx and MK 1-2 may also have intrusive platforming to them, while Potentially too technically demanding for 8-Player with Ice Climbers/Stage Morph, with the latter perhaps having to specifically adjust for the complications of: - OGA's very brief vacant drop between platforms? - JH's entire gimmick separating the fighters between the foreground and background with barrel cannons. OGA's start is similar to Sector Z/Corneria. Also took a year to make, if that meant anything. Stage Morph may not actually be a general issue for the vertical scrolling/platforming stages. The feature freezes stages mid-action before morphing (even horizontally scrolling stages like Mushroomy Kingdom 1-1, which work totally fine), so it'd have no trouble integrating with these layouts so long as there's area to stand on at the point of freezing, even if the fighters end up transitioned into the top or bottom of Icicle Mountain's platforms because Stage Morph always transitions into the mellow starting portion of a stage. Tighter platforming is inherent to these stages so further confounding that slightly with the freeze of Stage Morph wouldn't really mean much. Nnja Power Gimmicks that ARE the stage's identity and just aren't 1:1 compatible with Ultimate: - PM's Ghosts gimmick needing multiple console screens to function. - Ridley now being playable, the whole point of that stage and the previous method of incorporating that character in a BIG way, a bigger presence than say, Toon Link in Spirit Train. - Miiverse being shut down. JH's background gimmick potentially being hard to view in portable mode, the Switch Lite additionally being announced 7 months after Ultimate's release. Whilst these 5 stages all had issues fully functioning in Smash 4's 8-Player Smash (Miiverse actually being the one stage not playable in 8-Player Smash in any form, go figure), the top 2 in particular stand out in terms of detail and/or effects. Orbital Gate Assault has a lot going on, and though Kongo Falls has terrain depression even in 8-Player balloon floats entirely came from localization; the original Japanese name is "Pokémon Subspace" and the Poké Floats was certainly an oddity of a stage, especially when taking into account the characters being characters aren't definitively presented as being balloons, so the stage stands out in terms of taking as much inspiration from the iconic source material as Melee's Event Match trophy stages do and comes across as like Woolly World does, it also uses physics-based movements with the sky platforms and wool detail. literally just unanimated and uninspired Pokémon Stadium models made into a fake travelling stage, like a beta Observations: testing stage due to the inherent simplicity, giving it a memetic quality. Even if it's the only cut stage to have actually retroactively inspired its home series as it's since used Pokémon floats in things like the Wi-Fi chat Technically, the 3 previous Smash games' versions of Battlefield and Final Destination and Smash 4's Big Battlefield also count, as well as Smash 4's Omega variants (entirely missing stages with those noted above). This rooms in Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver Versions and Pokémon: Detective Pikachu's climax. But to be fair, doesn't include 64's Final Destination and Battlefield however, as those were single-player exclusive, like Meta Crystal and such. Also notably excluded from Ultimate are Brawl's 3 Sample Stages for its Stage Builder and stage variants between the 3DS and Wii U versions of Smash 4 (Battlefield, Final Destination, Gaur Plain and Wily's Castle, including their Omega variants besides Final Destination). - Kirby's Epic Yarn was going to get a stage in Smash 4, but plans changed with the announcement of Yoshi's Woolly World as that was revamped into The Great Cave Offensive instead. Now with Woolly World missing in Ultimate, nobody has a wool stage. - If you count their Melee replacements, 64 is the only previous Smash game to have all its stages return in even if The Pokémon Company would no longer sign off on this stage concept out of current licensing strictness despite having precedent in Smash, it could have simply been visually redesigned to actually represent the Pokémon as being floats while also making sense to the source material through that which came after the stage's debut. This can be seen with the changes Corneria got to now represent Star Fox Zero instead of Star Fox 64, though Venom still takes that mantle in its place. Ultimate in a way. - Not sure if stages were matter of being out prioritised instead of just being planned to be outright cut from the start for these reasons. They could have simply gotten out all the stages they wanted from the project plan because they were all feasible and that's why we don't have data of unused stages in the code unlike most other games.

With the Miis being of several fighters with different announcer calls depending on their gender in some languages, their default face with the bodylcostume differences of the opposite gender could be the closest thing they have to an official default look for Female Mii Brawler, Female Mii Swordfighter and Male Mii Gunner. Similarly, outside game inspiration can also be seen in Mil Brawler's Specials as they resemble attacks from SNK fighting games. There was only 1 example in Smash 4 before tripling up (with a revision of the 1st) in Ultimate as part of replacing a set of Specials that mostly resembled Little Mac's attacks. Smash had taken inspiration from SNK for moves before, but going all in on it in Ultimate is notable as its DLC would include SNK's official introduction to the series through Terry, with an ensuing Ryo Mii costume and Spirit Battles referencing this inspiration. Onslaught is based on a typical "Ranbu" Super Special Move in various SNK fighters, named after Ryo Sakazaki's Ryuuko Ranbu which is what's pictured. Ultimate's version strongly resembles Kim Kaphwan's Houou Kyaku. Additionally, the initial dash also looks like Zero Suit Samus's Dash Attack while the old finishing hit is similar to Captain Falcon's Side Special. Flashing Mach Punch comes from Ryo Sakazaki and a few others' Zan Retsu Ken ("Slash Rending Fist") in Art of Fighting and The King of Fighters, and Counter Throw is Geese Howard's Jödan'ateminage counter, with a similar pose also like Little Mac's Other almost-Brawler Miis in SSBU CREAE Each Mil Fighter has one particular reference to Mil source material in their moveset. The Shot Put minigame of Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games (3DS) . seemed to inspire Brawler's Special of the same name (not anything bowling-related). Shuriken of Light fits with the shurikens used by Miis in Wii Play Motion's Ninja Stage of Trigger Twist, Nintendo Land's Takamaru's Ninja Castle and Wii Party U's Star Pupil. And Gunner's Full Blast has small side shooters líke in Mii Force. Mii O Fighter Mii Gunner is the only Mii Fighter without specifically a bunch of Specials from an outside game source Fighters, Gunner takes inspiration from other Smash fighters. Fighters can often take multiple moves from existing fighters, but it certainly feels thematically intentional when the main Specials duplicate those of unrelated Smash fighters, also fitting their Smash universe placement as their moves and archetypes didn't exist prior to Smash. Absorbing Vortex (also the On-Screen Appearance) and Flame Pillar come from the respective Specials of Ness (and Robin for the latter). Charge Blast, Gunner Missile, Bomb Drop and Full Blast reflect Samus's respective Specials alongside Down Tilt and Up Smash (also Up Victory Pose), as well as Side Taunt resembling Samus's 64 character select/victory animation and they used to have an idle animation resembling Samus's Down Taunt. Laser Blaze (also projectile in Mii Gunner throws) and Echo Reflector come from Fox's/Falco's respective Specials, alongside the Back Throw and Up Throw. Individually, Neutral Air is Ike's, Down Throw is Marth's, Stealth Burst is Zelda's Side Special, Arm Rocket is Pit's Up Special and Cannon Uppercut/Cannon Jump Kick is kinda like Palutena's scrapped Rocket Jump. There was also a 4-hit standard attack like Pit's melee combo in Kid Icarus: Uprising when wielding a Cannon, showing that game's influence in Smash 4's development. Apparently the idle pose of holding the sword up to the sky is a general Smash swordfighter thing. To a lesser extent, Down Tilt is Marth's, Blurring Blade looks like parts of Marth's Neutral and Side Specials, Forward Smash is Roy's, Up Smash is Pit's (moreso in Smash 4), Reversal Slash is Mario's Cape, Shuriken of Light is like both Greninja and Fox's Neutral Specials, Skyward Slash Dash is like Fox/Falco/Wolf's Up Specials, Power Thrust is like Captain Falcon's Down Special, Chakram Is Ilvysaur's Side Special, Airborne Assault was initially like Sonic's Spin Dash and Stone Scabbard is Kirby's Up Special.
