AITA For yelling at a caisher i (57m) was at a store (won't say where) when I had picked up my items and gone to the checkout. There is no self checkout at this store. When I got up I noticed two teenage girls attempting to pay for something. I guess the machines were particularly slow that day, because their card had been declined twice. They both looked really angry and to be honest the employee didn't really look like she cared. I offered to pay their transaction (10.17) and they thanked me and left. I got up to this girl and she starts scanning my items. I ask her what was happening and she told me their machines were all down and that there was nothing that any employee could do about it. I told her that maybe she should ask her boss about it and she told me again that nothing could be done by anyone there. Getting kind of annoyed, I motioned to a coworker and said "Maybe there's something he can do about it" She told me again that nothing could be done, and that included him. I asked her if she thought she was smarter than he was or something and she looked down. I then raised my voice and told her to just give me the change and learn how to do her job. Well this adult cashier starting crying like a child and wouldn't give me any change. She really just stood there and cried and gasped like some four year old. Other costumers tried to defend her to her boss by saying I had started it and was being horrible to her and I told them back that they'd hadn't seen mean yet. Some other lady tried to comfort her by putting her arm around her shoulder and telling her stupid things like "you're doing great don't let him get to you" and I lost it and yelled in her face that she should just give me my damn change so i could leave. Eventually her boss sent her into the office for a break and he rung me up. Honestly I don't think someone so sensitive should be working in retail, but everyone else seemed to think i was in the wrong. So was I the a------ or should she have just grown up? Dear Anonymous Passerby, Don't worry, you're safe now! Your act of casual cruelty was successful. The complaint you lodged with the HOA was heard. They had me take down the small treefort that I built on this location with my sons during the pandemic. No longer will its presence offend your walk) past my house.
