Tilly is a Nandroid who, due to a series of circumstances, ended up becoming the first astronaut as the USA's last-ditch effort to one-up the USSR in the Space Race. The Soviets responded by sending a robot of their own, Tatyana, and the two eventually became friends. Their stories can be found here or here.
