The scene, featured in the penultimate episode of the series, became a viral subject of discussion in the show's community around the time it was released in late November 2024. In January 2025, a censored in-progress version of the scene and its storyboard were leaked online, with the scene again becoming a trending subject among the show's fanbase as it was referenced in memes and other reactions.

Origin

On November 23rd, 2024, episode two titled "Killing Is a Cycle" of act III of the second season of the animated fantasy series Arcane premiered.^[1] In the episode, a lesbian sex scene between characters Caitlyn and Vi, who had an on-and-off relationship since season one of the show, takes place in a prison cell. During the scene, Caitlyn and Vi take off each other's clothes while kissing passionately. While nothing explicit is shown in the scene, the sexual nature of the scene is heavily implied (scene shown below). The scene is set to the song "Fantastic" by King Princess.

The earliest jokes about the scene appeared in the days before it aired. For example, on November 18th, 2024, X^[2] user @ekkobomb posted a GIF caption meme casting doubt on the scene's existence that received over 3,100 reposts and 54,000 likes in two months (shown below).

In late November 2024, following the premiere of the episode with the scene it became a viral subject of discussions and memes in the Arcane community. For example, on November 23rd, 2024, X^[3] user @txjiiro posted a meme comparing the scene against another scene featuring characters Jayce and Viktor. The post (shown below) received over 8,200 reposts and 68,000 likes.

Storyboard and Unfinished Animation Leak

On January 4th, 2025, bilibili user Cobra_Art leaked the storyboard and the unfinished version of the Caitvi sex scene from the episode (upload and the account since removed). In the unfinished version of the scene, an "18+" censorship sticker appears over shots in which nudity could be visible (X^[4] reupload of the scene shown below).

Notably, the scene was leaked on Bilibili, a Chinese video-sharing website, while the scene itself was cut in the Chinese version of the episode due to local censorship laws.

Also on January 4th, 2025, the video combining both the storyboard and the unfinished scene was reposted by multiple accounts on X,^[5][6] with several posts going viral.

The uploads were followed by various memes about the scene as users searched for an uncensored version of the upload and posted memes referencing the "18+" stickers with Chinese writing seen in the video (example^[7] shown below).
