They don't have it nice per se, but they're young enough that they don't realize that there used to be better and there could be again. We're remembering the carefree times we had at their age and wishing we could feel that way again.

I have a very distinct memory. It was before depression took over me, so I couldn't have been older than 12 at the time. I was looking over the built-in calendar to some Microsoft Bob program, and I scrolled it over to my 18th birthday and wrote "Freedom!" on the date. I imagined finally being an adult and having the ability to go wherever I wanted and doing the things I wanted to do, at least within reason. There was a particular piece of road I pictured myself driving in an old hand-me-down El Camino on.

Fast forward to today, I'm now 31, the car is gone, I'm still not free, and now I'm painfully aware how fucked up the world is. Of COURSE I'm going to long for childhood.
