Supper Mario Broth @MarioBrothBlog Development files for Yoshi's Island show that at some point, Yoshi's animations attempted to create smear frames by duplicating part of the sprite. Artist's practice of rendering. From the post: "in the previous one i colored on the flats directly, but here i separated everything. the result is cleaner but it's less fun to do process-wise. there is a happy medium somewhere... i am still trying to figure out the best way to go about rendering delicate plane changes w/o it looking too diluted."

Translation: God bless you, my dears. Well, don't I look fancy? And so elegant? But not only is my fur² white, my soul is also as clean as a baby's bottom. Apparently, I am the only Yoshi who lives faithfully to the word of the Lord. That is why I often have to give words of admonition to the others in the flock. They sometimes allow themselves to be tempted to do rather shameful things. Unfortunately, the others never listen to me; quite the opposite, they even hid me somewhere on the island. And I just wanted to explain to them that I had seen the light... 1 Traditional Bavarian/Austrian greeting, literally "may God greet you". Used in these regions as a general greeting, instead of "good day". Likely used here to underscore the White Yoshi's religious nature. 2 In this guide, all Yoshis repeatedly refer to themselves as having fur.
