Development files show that the alcove was meant to contain a Power Star at some point, which would have been extremely hard to find if it was kept in. The hidden 1-Up Mushroom in Whomp's Fortress is one of the best-hidden secrets in Super Mario 64. This wall of the tower on top of the fortress appears completely ordinary and has no visual indication of hiding anything. ⠀ However, punching the wall reveals a hidden alcove containing a 1-Up Mushroom. This is not alluded to anywhere in the game and can only be discovered by punching random walls. 00 Development files for the game reveal that at some point in development, a Power Star was inside the alcove. When Mario falls off the Wing Mario Over the Rainbow secret course in Super Mario 64, he will fall into the moat. His health is not reset during this. If Mario falls after hitting a ledge and reaching 0 HP, he will instantly drown upon touching the water.
