I remember listening to a conversation on Youtube, back about 5 years or so, where they expressed their frustration that gay rights claimed ownership of the rainbow color palette as their representation.

Not in a homophobic or anti-LGBTQ way, it's just that it deters someone from making something rainbow colored because everyone would automatically associate with either representing gay rights, or more recently, corporate representation of gay rights. Consequently, what you used to see a lot on apparel from the 70's – 90's, has now lost favor from both sides due to it's significance with this one group of people.

I feel the same thing has happened with the trans rights color palette. What used to be a really good combination of colors you'd typically associate with majestic or sweet things like unicorns or Easter, now has primary association with a group of people who's favor to the general public can be seen as controversial. Which deters a lot of people from using it.
