On January 27th, 2022, the now-private Facebook^[7] page Special meme fresh presumably posted a surreal meme showing a color gradient at a front door, captioned, "this unpleasant gradient shows up at your front door," garnering over 4,900 reactions and 2,400 shares in a year. It was then reposted by the Facebook^[8] page Things Only Get Weirder on January 28th, garnering over 140 shares and 200 reactions in the same span of time (shown below).

On January 29th, 2022, Instagram^[9] page hellpostinginc posted the meme, gaining over 10,000 likes in a year. On January 30th, Redditor doctor347 posted the meme to /r/196,^[1] garnering over 4,300 upvotes in a year. On January 31st, a Redditor posted a character design based on the gradient to /r/196,^[2] garnering over 2,400 upvotes in a year (shown below). The original meme was reposted to /r/surrealmemes^[3] on February 9th, garnering over 4,900 upvotes in a year. On December 19th, Twitter^[5] user @ChoffeeLori posted the original meme, asking others to comment with the most unpleasant gradients.

On February 3rd, 2023, Twitter^[4] user @superchronodia posted a piece of fan art imagining the gradient as a person, garnering over 200 likes in five days (shown below, left).
