![Glen Daum, the music composer for Bakshi's Mighty Mouse, was not quite as forgiving of the pilot's content, as he rescinded his offer to score it at the last minute. After seeing a rough cut of Big House Blues, Daum supposedly said he could not be involved with such a "distasteful" project. Fortunately for the production, Henry Porch unearthed the Associated Production Music library and worked with Kricfalusi to create a suitable soundtrack. This soundtrack was not the typical marriage of jarring stock music to inappropriate visuals so common in television animation. Good aesthetic sense allowed the Big Shots to juxtapose prerecorded, pre- 1970s music tracks to the animation perfectly, as if the soundtrack had not been planned well after the fact. As Chris Reccardi remembers, this exemplified Kricfalusi's understanding of how the soundtrack deserves as much attention as the other elements of an animated cartoon. "It's not that [music] is more important than the other stuff, [because] an inappropriate score can distract and wreck the story pretty easily. It's another important tool needed to build a successful cartoon."
