Truth be told, I don't miss it that much; at least not the late 2000s way of watching anime. I think there was a peak somewhere between 2010-2014 when YouTube was far more lenient about allowing full unedited episodes of shows in 720p to just exist as is (or at least, considerably slower in taking them down which allowed for relatively steady and consistent reuploads of said content).

When it comes to old YouTube I feel way more nostalgic about all the short-form fan content that sprung up in different communites, throwing stuff at the wall just for fun sake without fears of being suddenly struck down for copyright infringement or completely hidden away because the video didn't appeal to the algorithm enough. It probably was aided by the fact that YouTube used to operate with a more blog-oriented format when it came to channels, so making friends and building close communities seemed to just come naturally back then.
