Supper Mario Broth @Mario BrothBlog Super Mario Odyssey contains four central themes: Hat, Rabbits, Wedding, and Moon. Remarkably, in addition to synthesizing all four themes, the game touches on areas where a preexisting overlap between the themes can be found, filling out a diagram of thematic connections. The Broodals wear hats, which they use in battle. One particular trick they all share is hiding inside and emerging from their hats. PULLING A RABBIT OUT OF A HAT RABBITS Outside of Bowser, the main villains are the Broodals, a group of rabbits that plan weddings. In addition, NPC rabbits appear in various levels. A mythical figure in East Asian folklore is the moon rabbit, based on an interpretation of the Moon's surface as looking like a rabbit. The Broodals, as well as a large amount of NPC rabbits, live on the Moon. HAT The game's main mechanic, "capturing", revolves around throwing Mario's new hat companion, Cappy, onto enemies after knocking off their hats. Most characters wear hats. Mario travels around the world in a hat-shaped airship. SUPER MARI ODYSSEY JAPANESE TOP HAT MOON RABBIT A classic depiction of a bridegroom includes a top hat. Throughout the game, Bowser always wears a top hat; Mario wears one to the final confrontation, and Cappy's true form is a top hat as well WEDDING The main conflict of the game is Bowser kidnapping Peach to marry her. To organize the wedding, Bowser steals various objects from different kingdoms. HONEYMOON MOON Power Moons are the main collectible of the game. The Moon is always prominently visible during levels. The final confrontation, as well as the bonus areas, take place on the Moon. The wedding between Peach and Bowser takes place on the Moon, referencing the honeymoon" custom. This is also referenced in the name of the wedding location, Honeylune Ridge.

It is believed that this could have been a reference to the "Power Glove" accessory for the NES. In this state, Mario would have used an object called PowerGrove which is believed to be a misspelling of "Power Glove", a reference to the NES accessory of the same name. The PowerGrove has functions for "Punch" and "Fire". Together with the name of Mario's state, PlayerStateSwordAttack, it can be assumed that Mario would have been able to punch, shoot, and use a sword with the PowerGrove.

A small UFO can land on Mario's nose

Supper Mario Broth @MarioBrothBlog Whenever Mario remains idle for long enough in Super Mario Odyssey, he will fall asleep, whereupon a bird native to the area may land on his nose. However, there is an extremely rare event where instead of the regional bird, a UFO will land on Mario's nose instead. Whenever Mario falls asleep in Super Mario Odyssey, if he is in an area that contains birds (most exterior areas), one of these birds will eventually land on his nose. Most kingdoms have their own regional bird varieties. Here, the Metro Kingdom regional bird is shown: a pigeon. However, there is an extremely rare chance that instead of the regional bird, a UFO will land on Mario's nose instead. This is actually the UFO that needs to be caught for a Power Moon in the Moon Kingdom. Note that this event never happens in the Moon Kingdom itself. This is a coin from Super Mario Odyssey. 0 Ⓡ Although the coin from Super Mario Odyssey clearly looks more detailed than the one from Super Mario Galaxy, it actually has fewer polygons. The Super Mario Galaxy coin is fully modeled. Every ridge of the coin, both inside and outside, is actually present in the model as a polygon. The coin from Super Mario Galaxy has 268 triangles. The coin from Super Mario Odyssey has 96 triangles. Here is how the coins look in wireframe view. The Super Mario Odyssey coin, on the other hand, is a simple flat disc. None of the details like the inner ridge or the rectangle design are actually modeled. The way the realistic appearance of the Super Mario Odyssey coin is achieved is by simulating the flow of light using a normal map (left), which maps which direction the light is reflected in on each point of the model's surface, and the roughness map (right), which defines how matte or glossy the surface is at any given point. Mario has drastically different expressions when climbing up a pole compared to climbing down. When climbing up, Mario is visibly happy. However, when climbing down, his joy suddenly turns to anger.

In Super Mario Odyssey, most poles, trees and other climbable objects are wide enough to obscure Mario's face as he is climbing them. Together with the fact that Mario is almost always seen from behind while climbing, this results in his facial expressions during climbing being very easy to overlook. Choosing a thin pole and using Snapshot Mode, we can see that Mario has drastically different expressions when climbing up versus down a pole. climbing down climbing up 1 When climbing upward on a pole, Mario appears joyful, with a wide smile.
