Starting January 1, 2025, Unity Pro will see an 8% price increase, raising the annual subscription fee to $2,200 per seat. Unity Enterprise will experience a 25% increase, with new minimum subscription requirements for customers generating over $25 million in annual revenue. These changes will apply to all new and existing subscriptions from that date. (Because these licenses involve major companies, the prices can vary based on different packages.) Bromberg stressed in his blog post that Unity will continue to increase prices as it needs to, but will only do so annually via subscription fees going up. It won’t try to squeeze pennies out of every developer using the engine based on how many times people install your game.

“Canceling the Runtime Fee for games and instituting these pricing changes will allow us to continue investing to improve game development for everyone while also being better partners,” said Bromberg.

Both of these numbers are self- reported from data you already have available. You will always be billed the lesser amount.

The retroactive pricing structure of Runtime Fees is not only harmful in a myriad of ways to developers--especially indies--it is also a violation of trust. We believe Unity is fully aware of this, seeing as they have gone so far as to remove their TOS from GitHub. Despite the immense amount of time and effort our team has already poured into development on our new title, we will be migrating to a new engine unless the changes are completely reverted and TOS protections are put in place. We have never made a public statement before. That is how badly you f----- up.

Unity's TOS (pre-October 13, 2022)

To simplify this. Most Unity Devs don't just install the newest version of Unity because a lot of our games require code they change, and we need legacy support for our versions if needed.

The Previous Unity TOS states, in general; that our version build is tied to the rules of that year. Ergo- If we use any version prior to the new "Runtime Fee" then we are not affected by it. This would protect all devs using older Unity builds (which is all of them)

However... It seems this rule was removed out of CURRENT TOS without our knowledge, It is currently unsure if this was a contract change that was public or done in secret. lots of devs thinks this might have been behind our backs.

Most noted parts I wanted to address in this:
1.5. They don't even know how to calculate the installations correctly yet. And yet their goal is to be like "trust us"
5. They 100% know it is possible for people to lose money per sale due to this method and their solution is just "just talk to us, we won't bankrupt you"

Most fellow devs I know would be fine if they just fixed their pricing model to fit what the rest of the industry accepts. We understand Unity got to pay for their Government contracts, AI programs and Malware buyouts. But this isn't the way we accept it.
