It was later disassembled and thrown out when the mall itself finished getting demolished this year. Perhaps it didn't want to let go. I bet the giant is a spirit of some kind, that misses its home so much that it made a recreation of the mall that was its home. Miles beneath the surface, away from people who would tear it down. Maybe it trapped Wyatt in so that he couldn't share the location of the giant's safe haven.
