What he'd actually end up doing just to fuck with expectations because it's David Lynch and messing with expectations is his norm:

I mean the dude played a character that was literally just him in all but name in a Seth McFarland cartoon, The Cleveland Show, and to this day I don't think he ever said why he accepted the role. Another Lynchian norm: expect no clear explanation. This is the dude who once went:
