Interesting to get a take from a whole corporate localization team.

Some elements of this make sense, sure you can change a few things in the localization to make it work better for other parts of the world and make others understand things better, like if one makes a very Japanese joke based on, say, some Japanese celebrity reference, changing that so it works for other countries is fine…

The problem comes in when you want to change a game from another country to a game that looks like it came from this country. Like if a game focuses on Japanese school life, then we will focus on the Japanese schedule and get odd things like a shorter summer and school starting though terms (they start in April instead of August/September), so changing things to act like it takes place in any other country is difficult because not every other country's school system does this, but changing this would be considered localization and some series could do it. It would be good to keep in mind that this is a Japanese school and not any other countries.

Localization is questionable because some want to use it's power to change too much instead of whats needed.
