My headcanon on why female custodes exists now. After the Heresy and the war in the Webway, there were so few of the 10,000 left that in desperation, they decided to use the daughters of great Terran houses as well as the remaining boys. After decades turned to centuries of trial and error, they finally began to see good results. However, due to the superstitious state of the Imperium, the Custodes were forced to keep it secret to avoid another civil war. But after the opening of the Great Rift and the return of Primarch Guilliman, the brothers and sisters of the 10,000 were finally able to leave the confines of the palace. As for the Sisters of Silence, Malcador (RIP) ordered them to go full black ops in the Webway and ensure that no cultists or traitors dared to make a move.

soraka-in-warhammer40k Dec 20, 2023 Hey if there's a faction who can just disregard all the rules the imperium usually plays by, its the heretics. After 10.000 years with the DarkMech and Fabulous Bill at their side, they should have figured out by now how to make more big beefy warriors even without adhering to the traditional process. And even without those factors: Just imagine a random cultist lady catching the eye of the gods. They give her a quest, she proves worthy, they offer power as a reward, and she just points at the next Astartes like "That. Make me that." - and the gods are like "weird, but within reason, have fun" before dropping the now grossly mutating and shifting body off at the doorstep of a random warband like "hey, you all got a daughter now!".
