If you don't try you'll never know if you can "do or do not". Maybe he just wants him to do it without even trying but if you are inexperienced and you havent done something before then how can you not try? He's not saying you're going to be a master on your first attempt. The point is to attempt in the first place with success in mind and not merely a haphazard flailing effort with failure as an option. "I'm probably going to fail, but I'll try anyway...
