Because Pegasus created card game Duel Monsters, so he inadvertently created Yugi, Yusei, and Judai or at least the pathways they're eventually be taking.

Or at least that applies for Yugi and Judai. Yusei feels like it exists in a new universe with the exact same card game, given the new mythology behind the games origin in that series.
