Note that real-life blue and purple bananas only have a subtle coloration and are either unripe or inedible; beware of false images of cartoonishly saturated bananas spread online. Donkey Kong's yellow bananas resemble the most common banana cultivar, the Cavendish banana. Diddy Kong's red bananas resemble the Red Dacca banana cultivar, which contains high levels of beta-carotene, giving it a red hue. Chunky Kong's green bananas resemble either unripe yellow bananas or cooking bananas, also known as plantains. These are very rarely eaten raw. Lanky Kong's blue bananas resemble the Blue Java banana cultivar, which has a temporary blue coating when it is not yet ripe. Tiny Kong's purple bananas resemble the Musa ornata species of banana which has pinkish/purplish fruits, especially when not ripe, but is inedible Note that the Internet is full of fabricated/doctored images of blue and purple bananas where the color is greatly exaggerated for dramatic effect. The real Blue Java and Musa ornata bananas have a subtle blue and purple coloration, not cartoonishly saturated hues.
