I thought I'd take a moment of your time to address what I have noticed to be a comm on competitive battling blunder When running Guts or Quick Feet sets, most immediately default to use of the Flame Orb without giving it a moments thought. But what if I told you the Toxic Orb can actually be better than the Flame Orb in some circumstances? The burn status ailment saps away 118 (12.5%) of the Pokémon's max HP per turn. The badly poisoned status ailment saps away health at a rate that increases in increments of 1 /16 (6.25%) per turn. So on the first turn, your Pokémon will lose 1116 of its max HP, on the second 118, the third 3/16 and so on. Here's a nifty chart I made: % HP Loss After! %) HP Loss After Turn # Flame Orb Toxic Orb 0 0% 0% 12.5% 6.25% 25% 18.75% 37.5% 37.5% 50% 62.5% 5 62.5% 93.75% 6 75% 131.25% 87.5% 100% So as you can see, it take 3 turns of bad poisoning to deal as much damage as 3 turns of burn. Fewer than 3 turns of bad poisoning inflicts less than burn damage would have over the same amount of turns. Toxic Orb can be useful for Guts or Quick Feet users that act as Wall-Breakers or Late It's also great for Pokémon that have Switching Attacks like U-Turn. Or Volt Switch. When trying to figure which orb to run, consult the following decision tree: Is the Pokémon running Guts or Quick Feet? Guts Quick Feet Is it Flareon? Is it Jolteon? Yes Tes No Do you intend on keeping the Pokémon in battle for more than 3 turns at a time? Use Toxic Orb Toxic Orb Tes Use Toxic Orb Flame Orb Choose wisely, and happy battling!
