It would make sense how such an incompetent moron would become the captain…

Honestly, I'd accept this as cannon much sooner than "it's because she's the chosen one" bullshit.

Do we even know anything about Twilight's parents? If I remember right, they don't even have a speaking role yet… Hell, the Wedding or Twilight's coronation would have been perfect to have something.
