Anonymous Okay, I think I speak for most (semi) tumblr famous people when l say that this is the most difficult kind of ask to respond to I know that it can be nerve-wracking to message someone you want to be friends with, and I definitely appreciate the risk you took by sending this ask. However, I'm going to use this as an opportunity to make my own How to Talk to People You Admire: the guide When there's someone you want to befriend on the internet, of course the easiest way to start a friendship is to ask, right? Wrong. Sending an ask saying "can we be friends is actually very uncomfortable for the recipient, and it puts them in a very awkward position. Of course I'm not going to say no, that would be really rude. That tends to make me feel a bit forced into the friendship, which is not a very good foot to start on Instead of asking, try just messaging them and initiating conversation. You'll find a lot more success that way! .Also, do not do not do not go on anon to try and make friends. I understand that it can be scary talking to someone you admire, but if you try to initiate a friendship anonymously, I'm going to say no. I know it sounds harsh, and I'm sorry, but that's just how it is. I don't know anything about you, how old you are, what kind of person you are, your name, nothing. I can't be friends with someone I know nothing about, so this is a big don't when trying to make friends. Trust me, it's not gonna work out well Another big issue I see a lot on tumblr is people tend to forget that other users, as famous as they may be, are just people. Compliments are nice, but don't put someone up on a pedestal. Don't fangirl over someone so much that vou never have real interaction with them Seriously. They're just people; treat them like it. Do not spam them with messages like "Wow you're so beautiful!!' you're gorgeous!!, you are sooo hot. i would do you in a heart beat. and the like. It's not sweet, it's creepy as f---. On a similar note, don't put yourself down in order to compliment someone. It's awkward and uncomfortable, and no one likes it. Lastly, learn to take hints. If you're messaging someone five times a day, and they never respond, they probably don't want to talk to you Spamming them with more asks is not going to help. If you send one ask and they don't respond within a few days (and they've been online) send another one to make sure that tumblr didn't eat the ask. But if they are consistently not responding, then take the hint and leave them o recap_ BAD things to say to try and initiate friendship: can i be friends with you? you against a wall. please let me touch you will you be my friend? oh my god, you're the hottest person i've ever seen. seriously, id do okay i know you're like perfect and i'm super annoying and gross, but "twenty asks sent in a half hour period begging someone to respond . GOOD things to say to try and initiate friendship: Hello! I saw your [thingl on my dashboard, and I thought it was really positive adjective]! I just wanted to let you know how much I enjoy your thing] Hi, I'm [name]! Ive been following you for a while, and I thought l'd stop in and say hi! How're you doing? Wow, you like [thing] too? That's really cool! Who/what's your favorite [character/ship/episode/what have youj? ((after sending a message and receiving no response)) I'm sorry, but did tumblr eat my ask? Seriously, the "1 thought I'd come say hi bit is a really helpful way to start a conversation.
