Here is the full post "Coming into this thread pretty late but I was lurking when Nayolfa was posting here. Dunno if he's still here or not but I guess I'll note him this on dA. Hope it's not too off-topic. Anyways, hey, I'm a sophomore animation student at an art college. I won't get into that, but I have a good idea on how the animation industry works and I'm in the process of getting my portfolio approved for internships. Nayolfa, if you any questions, please feel free to ask I encourage you (and MrEnter) to sit down and think about what you're doing and take a break from Growing Around. Take a day or a week off, even a month if you can. Work on other projects, practice storyboarding and animating, and watch some cartoons for inspiration. When you return back to your Growing Around, read some of the critique and feedback you got back on this project (that's not nice comments from deviantArt). Really think about the comments you received and focus on ways you can improve It's okay if your project bad and not everyone loves it. It's okay to scrap months of hardwork and to start over. The actual learning process is figuring out what does and doesn't work, not building on top of a bad foundation and hoping for the best With that being said, I honestly can't see Growing Around getting picked up by anyone. It's very stale, it doesn't stand out, and it doesn't take any chances. The biggest problem with this series is that you have no idea how the world works. You don't. And the world that the characters are living in is important. You have a different explanation every time when someone questions the lore and that's a giant red flag. All of this stuff should be worked out before you even start typing your script Actually, I'll be honest here. I'm more interested in watching a cartoon about how the world of Growing Around came to be than watching the Disney sitcom set-up you have now. There's an idea in there somewhere but you guys are refusing to explore it. You're playing it too safe. I can actually imagine Growing Around being a kid-friendly Lord of the Flies, haha. I don't think I've ever seen that on a major network before And there are plenty of resources available if you need help with pitching a cartoon. Being in college does not mean that you're in the industry, or know about the industry. Being in the industry means that you're in the industry, and college is filled with out-dated techniques. By saying you're in college is claiming to credentials that don't mean anything yet and damages any of your claims in my eyes 2.) We have done this frequently. We have taken plenty of breaks 3.) We only have two types of feedback in a following as large as mine: an echo chamber or trolls who hate everything I do. The middle is a minimal group, and they too often resemble either of the other two categories 4.) No it's not okay to scrap months of work. That is never okay. There is almost no situation where you can't get more out of something from finishing it than scraping it and starting over. 5.) Stop making assumptions about what we're doing 6.) "I can't see anyone picking this up" That's pure opinion. It might be critique, but it's not helpful unless you can substantiate that 7.) "It's very stale" This is hard to know because you haven't substantiated your claims. How much into this have you gotten? Have you read more than one script, or have you just looked at the storyboards? 8.) "You don't know how this world works" Says who? We know pretty much all we need to know. Either you haven't looked deeply enough into what we're doing and you're making assumptions based on f----all 9. "You're more interested in the way the world came to be" And I'm sure that a cartoon about Spongebob's life that led him to Bikini Bottom would be more interesting than the cartoon we have now, or how the Fire Nation conquered the world would be more interesting than the Avatar that we got 10. I'm sure there are plenty of references, but I'll find them on my own. Please enjoy your college education that's going to saddle you with mountains of debt that some people cannot afford and does not guarantee you a job when many other people with your same credentials have more people skills or ambition than you Or, maybe you're trolling. With critiques like this that say "Scrap everything" or "don't even bother it's hard to f------ tell

Most of what Enter said was passable until the end. Assuming someone is a troll just because they're giving you constructive (but probably hard to listen to) criticism is incredibly immature. The person clearly wasn't trolling. They may have been a little harsh, but you have to sometimes learn to deal with harsh criticism if you're going to succeed in that field. Also, insulting the user's college education was just unnecessarily nasty.

Yeah, the Growing Around thing clearly isn't going to take off if he's going to respond to criticism like this. Of course, it was probably already not gonna happen…
