Early 90s:
-Highly detailed sprites or pre-rendered 3D
-Mid to late 90s:
Blocky polygons that looked amazing for their day
-Early 00s:
Everything got really smooth all of a sudden and kinda shiny looking (that sort of mapping was popular back then)
-Mid to late 00s:
A sudden loss in color variety (unless it's Nintendo) that only began returning around the turn of the decade (basically the "real is brown" trope began losing favor in the later part of the previous decade and now games use more naturalistic color schemes, even games that pioneered the "real is brown" trope have abandoned that style [like Gears of War and CoD])
