I seriously doubt the Chinese intentionally released a virus that devastated their own country just to somehow cause Trump to lose his re-election campaign. Everything I've heard about the location of the outbreak just screams general incompetence, which is pretty much a human universal.

I remember a quotation along the lines of "do not attribute to malice what can be attributed to incompetence"; I think it applies here.
