You know, I was feeling down because of politics and human rights abroad and the future (or lack thereof) of our species.
But watching this made me realize, despite all our problems, we've managed to come a long way. I'm using a sophisticated electronic device to view a digital recording from someone far away from me using powerful equipment just to see what will happen.
It makes me feel somewhat better somehow. I don't know why, but it does.

Mythbusters tried regular firearms on non-Newtonian fluids. Turns out, for if you have the same "thickness" of it and crushed aluminum cans, and if you fire standard guns at it, the crushed cans win.
According to that episode, non-Newtonian fluids (at least some of them) have lots of polymers in them-- which are basically long "strings" of chemicals, in this context. So it's like having cooked noodles in a vat of water. Slow movement means the noodles have time to get out of the way, but quick movement is impeded.
So they're not better at blocking stuff than most liquids or solids.
Still, that's an original idea. With a little creative liberty, it would be a very interesting idea!
