We're back with more Sonic, this time diving in to the side material, starting with the currently running IDW Comic Series. In contrast to Archie, Sega owns the named characters in the comics directly, and the writer for them is now working on the games, so a lot of these original characters likely will appear in the main games in the future (two have already broken containment in to Crossworlds).
