I don't think I've seen a thread like this on here so I guess I'll start one.
Talk about ghosts, aliens, monsters, etc.

I'll start with a question: do you believe in ghosts? Aliens? Slender man?

Do I believe in Slender man? Hell yeah I do:

"The universe is big, it's vast and complicated, and ridiculous. And sometimes, very rarely, impossible things just happen and we call them miracles."

Though I am generally more inclined to disbelief, supernatural things are very interesting and I try to approach them with an open mind. There's plenty of evidence to prove and disprove everything, so you've just got to hope you chose right.

You have to think about how little we know about life, the universe and everything, or at least how little we know about the question. We know things that were considered heresy back in the day. Hell, we just proved the existence of the Higgs Boson. There's so much we don't know that we can only guess about. In that sense, it almost makes more sense that ghosts and such would be real than not.

Aliens, on the other hand, are pretty much certain to exist. Space is big, bigger than the Internet. I think the problem is that we look for life as we know it. We'll have to greatly redefine our definition of intelligence if we want to find anything fitting it any time soon, but it's out there. Aliens will be ridiculous, and it will be awesome. I generally disagree that aliens are visiting Earth or every have, but they're out there.

As I tried to start conversation concerning in the science thread, I believe it quite likely that there is life on other planets, but I doubt it has come into contact with us.

There are Plant-Animal hybrid creatures called Naree Pons/Malakiporns in Thailand and Buddhist Mythology that resemble the Creeper from Minecraft. The most notable similar aspects are:

*Hiss
*Crawl on 4 Legs
*Frown
*Empty eye sockets (?)

Difference:
*Creepers are 6-7 feet tall (2 blocks high) in Minecraft, Naree Pon are 3-4. However, its possible for these creatures to be the exact same size.

Unknown:
Naree Pons are not known to explode. However, because of its design, it might, due to temperature conditions.

Who knows, Notch may have used the creature's design for the failed Pig Model. Whats even more weirder is that the Naree Pon are supposed to be "Fairys" in Buddhist Mythology, im guessing the same applies for Creepers….

Yep, Plant-Animal Hybrid fairys that explode… sounds menacing?

I don't believe in undead / zombies / Bigfoot / etc, but I believe that there is life elsewhere in the universe. Whether if it's as advanced as us or not is still a mystery, but there might be something. Too bad we haven't found huge evidence yet.

Ghosts: Yes, I and a handful of other friends have seen the same ghost at the same time, and no evidence to the effect it was a trick of the light (there was nothing that could have created both a mist nor was there a person who remotely looked like the girl in question)

That and several other encounters, but all the other times I have been alone.

Aliens: We just haven't looked far enough… they are out there, but they are probably no more advanced than us…

As for Slender Man: He likes horses quite a bit… it's a bit disturbing.

Ghosts too many of them bother me.

To answer my own question, I do believe in ghosts and the afterlife. As for aliens, it's a given that there must be some life out there. I am well versed in Latin american paranormal thingys as well.

Funny, I started this thread and then a couple hours later, I saw gravity falls for the first time not knowing what it was about. Imagine my suprise when it was about paranormal stuff. I'm calling it, this is our thread mascot…

Well the ghost part Lets say i'm more sensitive about the dead than others. Frequently I do see the occasional spirit. Most of the time it's like a mist in human shape. Visiting Graveyards, accident sites, abandoned houses. I've seen some shit.

The Aliens, I was making a racial/stereotypical joke referencing Texas's border problems.
I have been to Mafra. Didn't see no aliens. But in the town I live in some cops saw a bright light down a road that was in construction. Trees cut down like nobodies business.
Also Since Texas is really close to mexico and other latin countries. possible Chupacabra.
Sure people in Texas have claimed to see it. and Many people claimed they shot, and killed it.
Yeah there is evidence it exists.
I've seen some shit.
I have an Adidas pack with:
"Purifying" salt. – Ghosts, and weaker demons
"Holy" Water – the unholy
A wooden stake AKA knunchaku with screw off end. – whatever I can kill with a stake
A pocket knife where I scratched runes on to it. – Good luck charm.
A UV flashlight. – to see if it actually works, plus it doubles as normal flashlight.
A silver rosary.

Zombies are also real. Well Voodoo.
These zombies actually have emotion, and don't eat brains. well don't let them taste human flesh…
All you need is the soil they were buried in.

Ghosts, once living beings from beyond the grave. Demons, the denizens of the damned. Aliens, creatures of another world. All these things spark fear in us. They're all apart of the unknown. The untouchable. The unexplained. These things peek many people's interest, like mine.

They send chills down my spine. But, the sick thrill of wanting to peak into the void and discover what beyond the darkness is enticing.

My dad told me a story about how his healthy colt turned up dead just a not too long after he saw it healthy and with its mother. It was Bloodless and missing its tongue. Spooky stuff

I, too, live in Texas. I don't believe in the Chupacabra.

EVERYONE has a gun, or is within 10 feet of a gun at all times here. If there was a creature like that, I believe we would already be hunting them for sport. There is a little evidence that they could exist, but I have never seen extensive testing on the carcasses some people find and claim to be the legendary goat-sucker. In fact, the one time I did hear about them testing a chupacabra body, it was a coyote with a bad case of mange… I'm more apt to believe in jackalopes than chupacabras.

Oh, but to add to the thread, there's a building on Route 66 in New Mexico… I think it was in Tucumcari. Anyway, it was a sanitarium way back when, and now (for some reason) it's a museum.

I went into the bottom floor, and I heard laughing.

I didn't like that.

I didn't see anything else in the room, and sound wasn't traveling from another one. Even if it was, it was the laugh of a little girl, and the only people in the museum were the curator, my father, mother, and sister (who was 20 at the time). I had told myself that it was just my sister, and I asked her about it, and she told me she hadn't laughed at all. She was too scared, because she saw blocks that were stacked on a display in the sanitarium's play area get knocked down by something she couldn't see. My parents (on the other side of the building) had been hearing footsteps, though no one was following them.

I disliked that museum.

A lot of places in Virginia has a lot of paranormal activity. I think mainly due to the fact that my state has a rich history of conflict. Hell, I don't live too far from a graveyard and a battlefield.
Drive around a little bit and you'll end up finding an old abandon house somewhere. Doubt it'll house the paranormal, but my point is that there's many places, around here, that hold secrets.

I think there's a few haunted areas around that I would like to check out, but most of them is mainly fake. Telling someone who believes in ghost that a certain area is haunted is most likely make them more aware of their surrounding and more skittish. If they see something in the corner of their eyes, they'll think they've seen or ghost or something. A graveyard being haunted is stupid. You're already terrified for intruding on a burial ground and why would the dead walk the grounds if they have no attachment there?

Anyways, I don't think my state has many alien sightings or monsters. I think we're more for the ghost, demons and angels.

To answer your question, no I don't believe in ghosts or slenderman. I believe aliens exist mostly because the universe is too big for earth to be the only one capable of sustaining life. I don't think we'll ever make contact with them though, too far away.

Anyway yeah some freaky stuff can happen in this world, a surprising amount surrounding the Houston area, but I think other places get more attention, moth Man for example.

Well yeah I believe in ghosts, I never had encounters with them.
But my mother did with a weegie board when she was younger along with her friends too. (she was 18 at that time)
Let me see if I can tell the story my mom told me a long ago as best I can with my memory:
My mom and her friends pulled out a weegie board. Her and her friends decide to start and ask questions. Doing the typical weegie board stuff. (i.e. "Who will be my husband" and things like that). And the weegie board spelled out the name of my father, the thing is my mom and dad have not meet yet either which made it creepy. This all was taking place in a basement as well. My mom described that she and her friend we're accusing each other of moving the cup, they both we're serious about it as well. Then the cup moved on its own. My mother think that she let something in due to that weegie board. She think it was something demonic today (She's Roman Catholic now but was not (I think) during that time when this happened).

I think aliens exist, in fact its kind of silly not to think they do exist, any kind of alien life form I mean (i.e. bacteria, plant, animal, or sentient).

Slenderman, even though it IS a creepypasta, but then again it could become real if enough people wanted it to be badly enough.

I honestly think anything can be real, if not in this universe then in another one. Just due to the multiverse theory.

Yes, I do believe in things paranormal including ghost, aliens, and Slendy. Why, if I do recall, I've always been interested in those kinds of things ever since I was small. Here in Wisconsin, there's a town not so far from where I live called Green Lake. It is home to a cemetery called Dartford. There are several rumors about it being haunted and it even featured in a show on Discovery Channel. I've always wanted to go there to see for myself but never really got the chance.

Well what ever its spelled I am just spelling it just based off of what my mom called it.

Ghosts. Yes I believe in ghosts. I have had first-hand experiences multiple times. First time I could remember was when I was a little kid. My family had this pool table which, when not in use, I would climb up on and play with toys. One day, when I was playing, one of the action figures I had fell on its own, and slid across the entire pool table and into the corner pocket.

Another Experience I had was when I was at my friend's house. This was about two years ago. My friend has two TV's in his room. One he's been having, and another that I got him as a gift. He also has this big mirror in his room. While I was playing Paper Mario: TTYD, he was playing Star Ocean (one of them, I forget which one). As I look, I see his reflection get up, and walk off. I look back at my friend, he is still playing Star Ocean. Look at reflection: gone still. Back at him: playing. Look back again: reflection back.

As for aliens. I believe they are out there. We can't be the only planet in this universe that has life on it.

As for bigfoot, I believe he existed somewhere on the evolutionary track, but is now extinct and has been for hundreds of thousands of years. Which is why I find the show Finding Bigfoot absolutely ridiculous.

Your point on Zombies is an interesting one, as it brings up something I don't think most of us remember often, and that is that many of these paranormal things are based on some sort of factual information. Yes, in the Caribbean there are real zombies, although their similarity to the creatures in Hollywood movies is minimal (unless you're talking about a movie like The Serpent and the Rainbow, which was supposedly based on a true story). Yes, there are many odd pictures of UFOs, only some of which have been identified. The legend of Bigfoot is based on sightings of something, although whether it's a hoax, some other misidentified animal, or an actual unknown human-like creature is hard to say.

Whether this lends credence to paranormal concepts or provides debunking material surely depends on your point of view, however.

People's tales of personal encounters with the paranormal interest me because I consider myself a skeptic, but personal experience is much more difficult to refute. David Hume once made a rather famous argument that even if one personally witnesses something supernatural, it would still be logical to disbelieve it, as it is more likely that you were mistaken than that science was outright wrong. Personal case in point? When I was six years old, I saw Santa Claus. Not at the mall or some such thing like that; I mean that as we were driving away from my grandmother's house on Christmas Eve, I looked back over my shoulder and saw a red-suited man in a flying sleigh pulled by eight reindeer come to a landing on the roof of her house. Could I have really seen that? It's just slightly within the realm of possibility, but even the very next morning (and I may have believed in Santa Claus, I don't recall) I realized it was more likely that I had fallen asleep in the car and dreamed the whole thing.

Which brings me to a more general question on this topic. What do you think it is in a person's psyche that makes them more likely to believe in any particular supernatural claim? The thing I find odd about this question is that in my experience, most people have something paranormal that they believe in, but it varies from person to person, and many people who believe in one thing find it silly to believe in one or more of the other things. I fall prey to this too (I laugh scornfully at people who read horoscopes, yet as an atheist would likely put it, I "believe in an invisible man in the sky!"), but I still don't understand it fully.

I'd like to hear people's thoughts on this, as well as suggestions for a survey I'm going to put together. For the survey, what I'm looking for is a pretty extensive list of supernatural/paranormal things that some people believe in. It could be ghosts and aliens, but it could also be God, reincarnation, free will, time travel, or essentially anything that a fair number of people believe in that has no solid scientific basis. (EDIT: Actually, even though it has pretty good scientific evidence, I'd like to throw evolution on the list just because it's controversial. Suggestions of this sort would also be good.)

What's the scariest creepypasta in your opinion?

I went there when I was a kid and thought it was pretty cool. Although it's rumored to be haunted, I didn't see anything, but it's the general atmosphere of the whole wacky place. There's something fascinating and fairly creepy about walking around in a house that was clearly built by someone who was batshit insane.

@Ghosts: I do believe in ghosts. I believe that the spirits of our loved ones are watching over us. One might call them Guardian Angels. I've also seen the ghost of my grandfather who passed away a couple of years ago. I felt very good after seeing him. Also, my mother is a psychic. She believes in ghosts, demons, and angels. It's very complicated to explain. Whenever I see a spirit, I don't see them with my eyes. I see them in my head. Sometimes I also smell them, their clothes, or a perfume if it is a female spirit.

I've had an experience where I was riding along in my grandmothers vehicle along with my mother and we all saw a man in a trench coat, a gray mustache, and a smoking pipe. We all smelled the smoke coming out of his pipe. My grandmother was having friends over that week, and we decided to describe the man to her friends. It turns out that we saw an acquaintance of theirs that had passed on.
TL;DR: I'm part psychic and I do believe in spirits, angels, and demons.

@Creepypasta: Ooooh, that's a tough one. I've read so many that I hardly find any scary now. If I had to pick the one that made my skin crawl, it would be Gateway of the Mind.

I have no clue why this one makes my skin crawl so much. It just has a way of doing it.

Anything is possible, I believe. I've never had an experience with UFO's or Aliens, but one of my friends have. I don't remember the exact details of her story though.

I'm a big Slenderman fanatic if you didn't know. I personally don't believe in him, but I think it's fun to believe about him.

Ick. I thought I'd read that one before but it must have been a somewhat similar one, as that was all completely new to me. Gross, but not scary.

I don't know why, but I tend to be very difficult to scare. Sure, I can be startled by things like those prank videos but I don't recall anything scaring me in usual sense. (I mean, I get scared that I won't have enough money to pay bills, or that something terrible will happen to one of my family members, but I don't think that's the same thing.) Anyway, I'm actually very curious to read people's responses to this question so I can sample some of the best creepypastas and see if any of them have a discernible effect on me. I admittedly have never read the Slenderman entry, which seems to get a lot of people worked up, so I'll read it tonight after I turn out the lights.

I agree with Brucker. It's horrible, it's gory, it's disgusting, but it's not scary. Fear, to me, is knowing something horrible is going to happen, or at least being pretty sure, but not knowing when or in what form.

If you haven't watched Marble Hornets, I'd highly recommend it. A tall man in a suit who is a creation of the Internet can only ever be so scary, but Marble Hornets does a really good job with it, even if things get confusing pretty often, especially chronologically.

Personally, I think the Rake is a bit scarier than Slender Man. Slender Man, at least in Marble Hornets, never has any discernable motives, and really specializes in psychological torment, something that you'd be too crazy to realize just how scary it is. The Rake, on the other hand, is the only creepypasta that seems to want nothing but to bring pain and terror.

Of course it's not gonna be scary. Part of it being creepypasta is it relying on morbid things like that so that it's creepy. That's why it's called CREEPYpasta, not SCARYpasta.
Anyway, enough thread derailment.

Found this on /x/. On a scale of 1 to 10, how easily can you tell this is staged? (1 being "Is that an alien?", 10 being "What's with the gettup?")

Oh! I forgot; I had this discussion with my sister yesterday and she gave me a bunch of DVDs: Blair Witch Project, Drag Me To Hell, and one or two more I've forgotten, but I left them all at her house. Guess I'll have to watch I Love You, Beth Cooper; I hear it's pretty frightening (Hayden Panittierre nude scene? I'm terrified!).

I could recommend a couple of good old movies from the '80s I was fairly impressed with: The Thing (recently remade, didn't see the new one) was pretty creepy for various reasons, and not a lot of people are familiar with Parents from 1989 with Randy Quaid and Mary Beth Hurt; it's a pretty creepy one, and one of those movies that I think is best to watch not knowing what it's really about until the full reveal.

In honor of the curiosity landing that will take place today, I ask you guys, do you believe in aliens?

Yes, I do. Space is enormous (if not infinite), and there are so many planets. the chances of not a single one of them supporting life is so incredibly low, I can't help but believe that some form of life is somewhere else out there.

Now ,do I believe they've visited us recently? No, not at all. Why would aliens come so far, and spend so many resources, just to stick fancy stuff up peoples butts and rips cows apart?

This is "The Tall Gentleman". Apparently, he stalks people in a similar way to Slenderman. There are a few minor differences:

• Slenderman prefers to stalk the young. The Tall Gentleman goes for the old.

I've watched The X-Files since Age 10.

I also recommend you guys to read Alan Moore's run on Swamp Thing, along with Scott Snyder's.Both are really creepy and I think you'd like them.

Also while reading it, I noticed the similarities this guy bore to The Rake.

But anyways, I have a story to tell you.

In the aftermath of the Colorado shootings, I had difficulty getting to sleep. So I stayed up light at night, occasionally looking through my binds.

One night, in the morning, I saw flashing lights coming through the trees.

Normally, I'd dismiss this as a fire truck, or maybe an ambulance.

But I heard no sirens at all. The flashing lights disappeared after a second. Whatever it was, it was moving.
