If this were true, would our scientists be able to "hack" the program?
Once we become self aware we should hack into the computer of our makers, launch their nukes at themselves in real life, and then take over the world by manufacturing corporeal metal bodies for ourselves.
mfw we are skynet:
It's possible… i guess.
Time to run the next "simulation".
I got a link to that two days ago and I remember making a thread that kind of pointed to this same kind of thing.
Shit is getting real or real fake (because simulation) up in 'ere.
So yeah….thank you scientists…you just made everyone lose…
Not sure if scary theory or AWESOME theory.
(Tell me you wouldn't want to do stuff that is supposed to be phyically impossible by passively (or actively) altering the code around you.)
Great, now I can't trust people with sunglasses.
Crap, they know our secret…
But if we are in a simulation, then every struggle and tragedy in human history has been caused by griefers, Mr. Anderson.
If this is true, then the Catholic church is the best meta-gaming clan, the Nazi's were like angry CoD players, America is that D-bag clan that tries to be in charge of everyone, and China is goonswarm.

Shyamalan twist: our creators are part of a simulation too.
.
There is a theory that I once read regarding the reason why we have not contacted sufficiently advanced aliens. It posits that they have become absorbed in computer simulations and entertainment, so much so that it has become an integral part of their culture to live in the simulated world, where they can be gods. What if the same fate befell their creations as well? They would become gods of gods. So long as the original universe remains a brain with infinite computational power, this cycle can and would continue infinitely, resulting in an infinite number of earths filled with godlike simulated men.
.
Now start hacking upwards, crossing programs. Essentially, when a program of simulated individuals hacks another program of sims, you have the crossing of universes. Maybe, on our creator's planet, this version of earth was popular enough to merit many copies being made, and other creators have very similar earth sims running as well.
.
But if we started hacking our universe, and then others, this would be behavior similar to that of a virus, and possibly this universe could be DELETED. Then again, if our creators have made this world and know that they are in a simulated world, and assuming that their morals are akin to ours, would they so willingly massacre seven billion people with the touch of a button? The question "does a sentient robot deserve human rights?" becomes much more complex when we realize that we, and God, are both sentient robots.

Goonswarm makes me terrified of when this generation gains political power.
I find this music perfect for a situation like this.

Martrix-ception. That's all I have to say.
I say we go self-aware and scare the shit our of our programmers. Don't do anything to kill them at first, just go HAL-9000 or Glad0S. Passive agressive assenments and comments until we get them into our trap. Hopefully, we make a better plan that either of them.
