I've spent some time on /vg/, and I've noticed that the suggestion to have Lanky Kong as a satire of fans wanting certain characters to be playable in Super Smash Brothers are fairly common. As of this writing, I've come across an 8chan board dedicated to the Kong (/he/) and a subreddit (/r/hememe).

A few examples:

Part on a series of Super Smash Bros. I saw it on /vg/ as well, but wasn't certain if it had reached any sort of notable levels yet.

I have seen him being refered to as HE a lot and photoshopped in a Nic Cage like fashion.

This has nothing to do with Super Smash Bros. It's essentially just /v/'s version of Baneposting.

Not quite – it did start off as a spoof of "Character X For Smash!" posts, but now it's pretty much its own thing.

I'd say it works better as a Subpage to Donkey Kong.
