About

Evans is a popular soundtrack from a Japanese arcade music video game series jubeat, also known as jukebeat in western countries, which is produced by KONAMI as a part of BEMANI line.[1] After 2009, this high-speed tune has been set to a popular music resource for online parodies, with a series of MADs remixes being created through the Japanese video sharing service Nico Nico Douga (NND) and YTPMVs on YouTube.

Origin

The song "Evans" was originally written by a Japanese composer Yoshitaka Nishimura a.k.a DJ YOSHITAKA,[2] and it was first released as a secret track on online update for jubeat in December 15th, 2008. The song is famous for its extremely hard difficulty among players.



This 1st original soundtrack CD for jubeat including Evans and Can-Can, another music resource of online parodies, was first released in February, 2009. In addition, its remix "Evans – prototype" has been included in the other music video game series in the same BEMANI line beatmaniaIIDX since its 17th version Serius released in 2009.

Spread

After the release, some of remixes, playing movies and other derivatives began to be uploaded to NND. In the field of MADs, the earliest hit in this series we can find today was posted to NND in May 11th, 2009, titled "SUPER MARIO EVANS.".[3] This was also one of the entries of the 2nd user generated MAD video convention for music video games "Music Video Game MAD Festival".[4]



Many music video game MAD editors have set this song as one of the standard music resources of their works, as well as RED_ZONE and Xepher.[5] As of September 2011, the amount of videos related to this song on NND is over 1500,[6] with over 300 videos among them are MADs.[7]

Outside Japan

Similar to other popular music on MADs, this song was imported to YTPMVs. Not a few videos reusing this song have been posted to YouTube.
