The Internet Movie Database, or IMDb, is a site that commonly list reviews of TV shows and Movies. The My Little Pony: The Princess Promenade review page on this site was trolled (and as of current still is trolled) by distorting the ratings and reviews of the movie into facts that would mislead anyone who would read the page. One might call this page a successful troll.

Feels good, man
Though it has been two years since its official release, it is easily the best film of 2008. In my humble opinion, it is the best of the “My Little Pony” series. Second only to the film classic “Last Tango in Paris” in terms of its cutting edge cinematography and intriguing and highly original plot, it stands alone as a masterpiece in regards to its careful handling of a very difficult subject. This movie has something for everybody. It is a raw and unapologetic social commentary for a generation in search of the answers to the biggest questions of our age with sing-a-longs you can have on your iPod and not be ashamed to show off. The music is inspired and wonderfully executed, and it’s cinematic score was simply breathtaking. My only hope is that when I have children, they can draw from the knowledge and wisdom I have gained from watching this brilliant piece of cinema. This is the only movie I have ever recommended to all my friends and have been thanked for afterwards.
The poster rated the movie all 10 out of 10 starts and is followed by other reviews that express similar opinions. Many of the other post say that “It has a certain measure of beauty…” or “I had finally found that missing piece and my life felt complete!” There are claims of extreme transformation even after seeing the movie.
While their words may sound sincere, most of the posters have names like mudkiprex and Walker Texas Ranger. Mudkiprex is a derivative of the word mudkipz which is part of a common trolling phrase on the imageboard 4chan, a site known to be filled with trolls. These signals mark that 4chan members have been on this page and are probably likely for higher percentage of votes that this movie has received.
Evidence of a Successful Troll
Roger Ebert, a well known film critic, is the first instance found that has responded to this trolling. He tweeted July 27th (year unknown):
Roger Ebert via Twitter:
How can “My Little Pony” possibly be this good? IMDb? Hello? http://j.mp/bpIWqb
This tweet was then retweeted by over 101 twitter users. (Note: That is the highest number of retweets twitter will show.)
