Hipster Hitler, also known as “Adolf Hipster”, refers to a series of comics and images of a Hipster version of the Adolf Hitler.^[1] The images typically dress the former German dictator in skinny jeans and hipster glasses with a side-swept hairstyle.

Origin

The domain for the Hipster Hitler^[2] webcomic series was registered on August 22nd, 2010. The first comic titled “Ironic Invasion”^[4] featured a conversation between Hipster Hitler and the Reich Minister of Propaganda Joseph Goebbels:

On August 28th, 2010, Redditor ogawdomanogawdoman submitted the second Hipster Hitler comic titled “Juice”^[10] to the /r/funny subreddit that accumulated 539 up votes prior to being archived.

The earliest known Hipster Hitler Halloween costume photo was submitted to Reddit^[5] on October 31st, 2010 and reached the front page receiving 3,017 up votes prior to being archived. A second costume was submitted by Redditor baron9229^[6] on November 1st, 2011 but did not reach the front page.

Advice Animal

On January 11th, 2012, Redditor caputero submitted a photo^[3] of a man in front of a computer wearing glasses with a haircut and mustache that somewhat resembled Adolf Hitler. The thread was titled “I found Hipster Hitler” and reached the front page accumulating over 20,600 up votes within 5 days.

Several image macros were subsequently created and a Quickmeme^[7] page accumulated 80 submissions in less than a week. Variations were also uploaded to Reddit^[8] and the AdviceAnimals subreddit.^[9]
