About

Senbon Zakura (Japanese: 千本桜, trans Thousand Sakuras) is a song composed using the Vocaloid software which has become popular among the Vocaloid/Hatsune Miku community, thus creating various remixes and related fan art.

Origin

The term Senbon Zakura was first referred in the famous kabuki play Yoshitsune Senbon Zakura (Japanese: 義経千本桜), written in 1747, during the Edo period in Japan.[1] The kabuki play depicts events set in the Genpei War (1180-1185 AD) during the Heian period of Japan .

The song was composed by 黒うさ (pron. kurousa) and the animation used in the original video was created by 一斗まる (pron. ittomaru). The video was uploaded in Nico Nico Douga (NND) on September 17th, 2011 and has reached more than 1.5 million views.[2]
