Story of the Blank Flanks is a My Little Pony Friendship is Magic fangame made in the style of a NES. Although seemingly innocent at first, the game later reveals a much darker creepier side, giving it a creepypasta status. The plot involves Apple Bloom wandering too far into the Everfree forest where she comes across Sunny Town, a town made up entirely out of ponies without Cutie Marks, aka blank flanks.
It is eventually revealed however, that far from a happy carefree village, Sunny Town is in fact a deserted wreck of a town haunted by zombie-like ponies who refuse to let anyone leave. The exact details of how this came to be are not explained or known.
The game was mostly created entirely by the artist / programmer Donitz, with the music composed by CRTified Technician, Zero V2 and DarkNES. The game was made for a Creepypasta game competition on the My Little Pony focused gaming site Equestria Gaming, inspired by the popularity of the Luna Game series. Donitz posted the game to his Deviantart on July 1st 2011, and on Newgrounds on the 2nd, which has received over 200,000 views so far. Donitz went on to win the contest.
Probably the most noticeable original character in the game, Ruby is a grey pony with a blonde mane and magnifying glass cutie mark, with the special talent for finding things. She helps Apple Bloom later on in the game. Multiple fanarts have been created featuring the character.
She was most likely murdered by the rest of the town at some point in the past, shortly after discovering her cutie mark. It was this act that condemned the rest of the ponies to their cursed state.
Later on the 2nd July, My Little Pony news site Equestria Daily posted a update about the game, with a link to the Newgrounds page.On the 16th July That Guy with the Glasses member CR, host of Familiar Faces, uploaded a Let’s Play of the game. A officially supported novelisation of the game was made by Deviantart member Aoshistark, and a TV Tropes page for the game exists, listed as a fanfic. On October 4th Deviantart member template93 began work on a comic adaptation of the game. A Tumblr Ask blog has been set up about the members of Sunny Town, such as Gray Hoof and Three Leaf.
