Stupidity Squidward is a meme/rage comic face in which Squidward, a character from the TV show Spongebob Squarepants, comment on someone's stupidity (in the original case main characters Spongebob and Patrick) by saying, "Just when I thought they couldn't get any stupider…" This is similar in use to the "Are you f***ing kidding me?" meme/rage comic face. The first panel shows someone saying or doing something stupid, with the second panel having Squdward uttering his line.

Origin

Stupidity Squidward was first posted February 10, 2015, on Meme Center, Tumblr, and Google+ by John White, a meme maker, known as his nickname Supernova6 on several sites. Inspiration struck for the meme when in his online class someone said something shockingly stupid and out-of-touch, to which he immediately mentally responded with the quote from Spongebob, being a huge fan of the show. He decided he would block the original names and make a meme highlighting their comments, next to a picture of Squidward uttering his line. This would become the first example of the Stupidity Squidward Meme. Nine days later, armed with a new example taken from one of his classes again, he posted both examples on Cheezburger and 4chan's /tv/ board. Within an hour the 4chan thread was already commented on several times, almost all of the comments praising the meme, with a few hate comments from trolls and haters. A short time later, however, the page mysteriously 404'd, and the thread was seemingly unable to be retrieved, however Supernova6 found it hours later and the thread can be found here: http://tv4chan.com/thread/53584693/the-squidward-stupidity-meme.html

The physical quote from the Spongebob TV show came from the episode "Idiot Box", in which Spongebob and Patrick buy a giant television just so they can play in the box. Squidward, being their next-door neighbor, watches them receive the television, pick it up, throw it out, and dive into the box, closing it behind them. The shot then cuts to Squidward's face as he says, "Just when I thought they couldn't get any stupider…"
