Zach Snyder and Frank Miller’s 2006 film 300 became the subject of a number of different Internet fads almost from the start.

On October 10th, 2006, user heksaur became the first to create a “This is Sparta” YTMND.

A total of 85 “This is Sparta” YTMND’s have been created between 2006-2009 including the popular Sparta Remix.

King Leonidas (the one who yells) is told by a Persian messenger that he must give proof of submission to Xerxes, the proof being an offering of earth and water. They argue a bit, then the messenger says “Choose your next words wisely… They may be the last you speak as king.”

Too bad the messenger wasn’t a bit more tactful, and, y’know, Xerxes wasn’t all imperialist.

Great movie, though, over-all. The wide spread of this meme is mainly thanks to the fact that people actually went to see the movie.
