Timotei is a popular remix subject based on a short clip derived from episode 6, “Fixtures of Summer”("Natsu no Teiban), of the anime Lucky Star, in which the main character Konata recreates a famous advert in a public bath by stroking her hair while saying, “Timotei”. Numerous remixes and MAD’s were created using the unusual sound clip on video sites such as Nico Nico Douga.

The original advert

Timotei is an Nordic brand of shampoo which was launched in Sweden in the 70’s, then later introduced to the rest of the world in the mid-80’s, including Japan. The shampoo is still being sold in many parts of the world to this day, including Japan, the UK and Australia.

When the shampoo was advertised in Japan, a jingle featuring a lady repeatedly singing the title of the product in a short song was added, accompanied with footage of a woman washing her hair by wringing it out into a bucket, which is what Konata is recreating in the scene. The advert was discontuined long before the episode aired though, explaining why her friends do not initially recognise the reference.

The advert starts at 0:06

Such was the popularity of the parody, that, according to the page’s discussion[1], the Wikipedia page for the original shampoo was created purely because of it’s connection to the scene.

Timotei is also one of the sound clips used in the highly popular Paffendorf Dance and Konata de Gozaimadu!
