About

Gozaimasu is a series of MAD videos featuring characters from anime and similar subjects dancing to an unnamed backing track from the extremely popular anime Sazae-San[1], set to vocal clips of Konata from the show Lucky Star, from which the original video came from.

The title of the meme, X de Gozaimasu, is bascailly japanese for I am X, a reference to the anime from which the music was taken, Sazae-San, in which the lead character, Sazae Fuguta, would start each episode by saying "Sazae de Gozaimasu", a reference which would be instantly recognisable to nearly anyone in Japan.

On August 17th 2008, a Nico Nico Douge user uploaded a video "Konata de Gozaimasu"[2] of the character Konata from the anime Lucky Star dancing to the song, along with samples of her voice set to the music, in much the same way as the Paffendorf Dance , which was also based around clips of Lucky Star. All other videos use this as the template for the characters movements.

Spread

One of the first variations of the video was posted on August 20th 2008, featuring the characters Sakura Izayoi and Remilia Scarlet from the Touhou Series# [3]. This video along with a few others, including the original, were soon posted onto Youtube by user Reddevils500, giving the meme a new place to spread, with many people creating their own versions specially for YouTube.

Westerner's draw

- Darkeh de Gozaimasu!

- Warriors de Gozaimasu

Search Interest

Although Gozaimasu had always been a fairly popular search term, the massive bump in popularity for the term "De Gozaimasu" towards the end of 2009 is definitely due to the memes new found popularity on Youtube.
