Za Warudo...Wryyyy (2007)

added Apr 28, 2009 at 01:07AM UTC

The “Ze Warudo…Wryyyyy” meme comes from the finishing move of the character Dio Brando from the various Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure arcade games which came from a popular Japanese Manga of the same name.

Dio Brando’s ultimate finishing move involves shouting “Ze Warudo” Japanese for “The World,” then stopping time, throwing knives at his opponent, and then slamming a steamroller onto them, followed by pummelling the steamroller until it explodes.

Well, there’s more info on ED about that :)

It came from “THE WORLD”, which from a moonspeak speech is heard “ZA WARUDO” (rather than ze warudo). I don’t know much more about Jojo’s bizarre adventure (the original manga) but it’s a skill that stop time that Dio uses against the main character, Jotaro (which he learned later anyway). I believe that “WRYYYYYYY” comes only from the game.

Not to be a dick or anything, but it’s spelled “Za Warudo.”
Sorry, little nitpick.

“The World” (Za Warudo) is indeed the ultimate ‘ability’ of Dio who is a vampire and a psychic stand wielder in the manga. (Won’t get into details it’s a complex story)
He’s able to stop time and actually pulls the roller move on the hero during their final battle.
However his signature scream ‘WRYYY’ comes not from this fight but from his awakening as a vampire early in the series. Dio ftw.

If anyone can find the flash version it’d be nice to post that on here as that contributed greatly to its popularity.

“Za Warudo” is Engrish, not Japanese. I’m pretty sure the “The World” in Japanese would be “Sekai ga”. (Forgive my Romaji)

This is the manliest thing ever. Seriously guys, read JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure. Naruto, Bleach and whatsoever isn’t anything compared to that. It’s a pretty old manga (think from 1989) and is still ongoing. The first two parts look very strange (MANLY), then it goes to a more modern style with each part, there are currently 7 parts, the newest is Steel Ball Run. SBR can be read without reading the first 6 parts, but that really wouldn’t be the same. You should at least start with Part 3.

Trust me, it’s epic.

All of the “Stands” in JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure are named after tarot cards. Dio’s card is “The World” (a real tarot card). The English name for the card is “The World”, so the author chose to have Dio yell “Za Warudo” and not whatever the Japanese translation is.
