It's been twenty years, and The Matrix has only gotten more elaborate. The Wachowskis' original film came out in a time when going online was still something strange and cool, but today we all use computers nearly as much as the people who spend their whole lives in the Matrix. The upcoming Matrix movie releasing next year is a reminder that Keanu Reeves showed us all a vision of online transcendence, but you can't tell a story about being online without a bunch of memes.
